About Mary Slater
Mary Slater 1827 to 1898 – is buried in St Chad’s churchyard together with her parents, Thomas and Mary Haywood. Mary Slater left a Will making generous provision for the ‘Lichfield Nursing Institution and Invalids’ Kitchen’, which over time funded part of The Victoria Hospital and thereafter ‘The Mary Slater Charity’.

Mary also gave money for two windows in the South Side of the Church and provision of the oak ceiling in the adjacent aisle in memory of her parents.
